Portland is Oregon's largest city and one of the most culturally distinctive urban centers in the American West, dense with independent bookshops, James Beard Award-winning restaurants, craft breweries, and a light rail network that makes carless exploration genuinely practical for groups.

Crater Lake fills the caldera of Mount Mazama, a volcano that collapsed 7,700 years ago. At 1,943 feet, it is the deepest lake in the United States and deepest in North America — its color, a saturated royal blue with no earthly equivalent, results from extraordinary water clarity and depth.

Oregon's coastline is entirely in public ownership, every inch of beach is accessible by law. The 363-mile Oregon Coast Highway traverses sea stacks, headlands, historic lighthouses, tide pool reserves, seafood towns, and the world's tallest forested sand dunes.

The Columbia River Gorge is a National Scenic Area spanning 80 miles of the Columbia River, where it cuts through the Cascade Range. Over 90 waterfalls tumble from the Oregon rim, including 620-foot Multnomah Falls, the second-highest year-round waterfall in the United States.

Bend sits at 3,623 feet in Oregon's high desert on the eastern slope of the Cascades. The city of 100,000 has become one of the fastest-growing outdoor recreation centers in the Pacific Northwest, anchored by Mount Bachelor skiing, 60+ craft breweries, the Deschutes River, and lava tube caves.

Cannon Beach is one of the Pacific Northwest's most recognizable places, the 235-foot Haystack Rock dominates the beach while galleries, restaurants, and independent shops fill the village behind the dunes. It was the filming location for The Goonies and appears in countless Pacific Northwest travel narratives.

Astoria is the oldest American city west of the Rockies, established in 1811 at the mouth of the Columbia River. Its preserved Victorian neighborhoods, excellent maritime museum, and dramatic position above the river's 4-mile-wide mouth make it one of the most historically textured destinations on the Pacific Coast.

The Willamette Valley produces the finest Pinot Noir outside Burgundy. The valley's 150-mile length between Portland and Eugene holds over 700 wineries, many family-operated, with tasting rooms ranging from converted barns to contemporary architectural statements amid working vineyard land.

Smith Rock State Park is one of Oregon's premier natural attractions volcanic tuff formations rising 800 feet above the Crooked River. The park is considered the birthplace of modern American sport climbing and offers 1,800+ established routes alongside accessible hiking trails above a dramatic bend in the river.

Eugene is home to the University of Oregon and a deeply embedded running culture that goes back to the Bill Bowerman and Steve Prefontaine era. The city sits at the southern end of the Willamette Valley, offering the McKenzie River corridor, Saturday Market, and some of Oregon's best farm-to-table dining.

Tillamook anchors the Oregon coast's most agriculturally productive county. The Tillamook Creamery processes 167 million pounds of milk annually; the Air Museum occupies a wooden WWII blimp hangar the size of 11 football fields; and Three Capes Scenic Loop delivers some of the coast's most dramatic headland views.

Jacksonville was established in 1851 after a gold strike in Jackson Creek and became southern Oregon's most important city. Its gold rush prosperity was so rapid and complete that no major update to the built fabric was economically justified leaving behind a National Historic Landmark district of remarkable integrity.
